Laura Secord’s prom committee held the first buy-in at the school since the beginning of the pandemic. The buy-in was used as a fundraiser, to create a more accessible prom for the school's graduating class. The event would showcase a student vs. teacher basketball game. A total of 200 tickets were sold, completely selling out the event and raising $400 in funds, according to the president of the prom committee, Lauren Flemming.
The teachers' team, led by Mr. Jabs, included a large variety of department teachers. These included Mr. Lyle and Mr. Nickel from the tech department; Mr. Reid from science; and Ms. Bolan from art, making her first debut in basketball since her early years in high school. The student team was composed of various members of both the senior boys and girls basketball teams including Natalie Backus, Ashlee Mctague, Ashley Uzande, Kyle Kocis, and Saqib Khan.

Hopeful, the teachers chose their best starting line-up and took to the court. Coming in at 5’2 Ms. Bolan faced the student's team member, Rapheal Yazdani, in the jump ball. Securing the ball for her team with ease. The first quarter took the teachers to a 4-point lead, with Tate Langdon violently securing the ball from Mr. Reid leading to her first assist of the game.
During the second period, the students regained their footing with a picture-perfect pass from Jack Mcnamara sending the ball down the court to Ashley Uzande where she was fouled by Mr. Sirianni during her layup. Ashley, securing the basket during the foul, managed to sink her free throw, putting the students into a 4-point lead at halftime.
While the students’ team was cheering in victory at their bench, the teachers’ team conjured up a plan to take the second half. With halftime coming to an end, the original starting lineups for both sides made their way onto the court with the teachers gaining possession.

In efforts to catch up with the students' team, Mr. Vanderlee struck Ashley Mctague in the head with the ball, sinking a basket in shortly after. No foul was called as the ref Ms. Hall could not confirm the basket even took place. Witnesses state that during the alleged strike, Hall had gone into labour and was rushed to the hospital through the back.
With no replacement for ref Hall, the game continued with a lack of cal\students at a surprising advantage. Mr. Sirianni, in an attempt to shoot a 3-pointer, was abruptly halted by Sahil Khan’s sudden telekinesis and levitating powers. Sahil was able to use this power to score a basket from the opposite side of the court, where his team was awarded six points by the scorekeepers.

The final score was a raging 53:60 in favour of the students. The prom committee and graduating students alike shared the victory as the funds raised from the event reduced prom ticket cost. Tickets are being sold for $80 over the first 2 weeks of May by various members of the prom committee.
