After missing an entire season of play, athletes finally took to the field on Wednesday, April 27th. The team took part in a five-game frisbee tournament at Port Colborne High School. After a successful debut season, in 2019, and qualifying for SOSSA, the expectations for the returning players and coach were high.

They managed to provide the most disappointing season a team has ever played. Keep in mind they are playing frisbee, a sport most people know nothing about nor practices in their spare time. Even with no skills or practice, they managed to get blown out in almost every single game they played. The team started out with a solid performance of going 2-3 at their first tournament at Port Colborne High School, while still a losing record, it was expected to improve. Much to nobody's surprise, it did not. In the following tournament at Sir Winston, Secord managed to win against their so-called “rivals” Thorold Secondary School. It is difficult to say Thorold feels the same after winning 3 out of 4 matchups against Secord, including a game for 3rd place later at that same tournament, where Secord was walked over due to their lack of energy. The end result of the Sir Winston tournament was a 2-4 record. To think it would be impossible for things to get any worse would be the wrong assumption.

The underserved SOSSA tournament was next. Secord managed to qualify due to a lack of other schools having a frisbee team. Well, the bar was laying flat on the ground for this tournament, and Secord still managed squeeze under it. Winning a total of…ZERO games, there was not a single win all day finishing 0-6. To add insult to injury, there were multiple games where the team didn’t even manage to score a single point. For perspective, Frisbee is a sport where it is very possible to score in the double digits in every game.
As expected the team’s spirit and hopes were absolutely obliterated after their poor showing, so much so that about half the team did not even show up for their next tournament. Much to everyone’s surprise the team actually played what some would consider good in their final tournament, despite their lack of players. In an invitational tournament in Ancaster Highschool, Hamilton, Secord managed to go 2-1-2. In fact, this is the first time the team did not have a losing record to end the tournament. Coach Kent could not hold back his smile all day. When asked about the controversial season as a whole, Kent described it as, “Resilient,” and said, “The team competed well against schools similar in size, and was continuing to evolve.” Of course, in terms of evolution, the team looks like it has a long way to go, but Kent remains optimistic.

One of the team's top players, Minsan Kwon, who is a man of few words had this to say about Secord’s season, “Good…” When asked about their record not reflecting this he said, “It’s okay, it was fun.” Frankly, Minsan’s words hold some truth, as long as the players and coach had a good experience, maybe the team record should not be the deciding factor on the success of the season.
